A politically exposed person (PEP) is a person who holds or has held a prominent public function. Under Article 3(10) of Directive (EU) 2015/849, as amended by Directive (EU) 2018/843, Member States must publish a list of the exact functions that qualify. Those lists are collected by the European Commission and published in Commission Notice C/2023/724 of 10 November 2023.
This register presents all functions notified at national level, at the level of international organisations and at the level of the European Union institutions and bodies, in the exact wording of the Official Journal. It contains 2572 positions across 28 jurisdictions, in English and Polish.
Being listed here does not by itself establish that a person is a PEP. The lists are indicative (“in particular”), national transposition differs, and the assessment must always be function based. A person who has left office may remain a PEP for at least 12 months, and the risk assessment for family members and close associates follows separate rules.
